Tasmania MONA wedding – Sam & Joel.
It must be summer.
I keep running into guests from past weddings.
And that’s a good thing, that reminds me to update my work here.
When Samantha and Joel approached me to shoot a wedding in Hobart I replied, ‘great, I can visit MONA after the wedding!’
“Erm, the wedding venue IS MONA, ” they replied.
And then I heard this very long scream, and I realised it was me making the noise.
Sam and Joel live in Melbourne.
Having an interstate wedding must be tough.
I assume hiring an interstate photographer isn’t any easier.
But here’s the thing, over the years I realise I do my best work when I’m actually unfamiliar with the venue.
Granted I’ll arrive early to scout and do my homework, but there is this energy, not too different from being a tourist, that pushes me out of my comfort zone.
Pushes me to not do what I usually do.
I’m not saying don’t hire locals.
Just saying don’t worry if you decided not to.
Most of us are professionals.
And we carry our ethics and problem-solving skills wherever we go.
We document the event of celebrating happiness.
The location, is irrelevant.
