Hi M,
I don’t know you.
People assume I do because we used to live so close to each other.
But the fact is that I only visited you once. I was very young then.
I only remembered your giant red old castle. (Or what’s left of it.)
And you being conquered by the Portuguese in 1511.
Sorry it took me twenty years to get back in touch.
If it makes you feel any better, I was equally slack towards your other neighbours.
Anyway, I really enjoyed my stay.
Can’t believe you’re on the World Heritage list. That’s awesome.
I guess being invaded has its merits after all.
There were tourist from all over the world.
What can I say? You totally deserve all the attention.
Your little shop house architecture facade thing was amazing.
The chicken rice balls were a treat. (I believe the secret is in the chilli sauce.)
We saw the best front of house a restaurant ever needed in a small Teochew restaurant. He basically ordered for us.
You thread on the thin line of tradition and new wave hipster culture.
Nostalgic, yet refreshing.
Like an Old Spice ad.
So, I don’t know when I’ll be back again.
But I’m really glad we managed to reconcile after all these years.
You stay old school. You stay cool.
H
