If the Chinese New Year celebration was a loud lion roaming around the streets of Chinatown, then the Japanese Summer Festival is an elegant peacock, calm and collected.
While the lion dances forced others to be spectators, the bon odori encouraged participation.
I’m not saying one is better than the other. I was gobsmacked by both and amazed by the different events available in Melbourne.
Dig, dig, push, push.
