I have not been featured on a wedding blog since … 2016.
It may have something to do with a post I wrote that year.
It was passed around on wedding photog groups and my success rate of being featured has gone down ever since. A stark contrast to 2011 when they would email and invite me to submit.
I was fine with it.
Most of my couples came from word of mouth.
Then again, it could also be a big coincidence.
The game has improved so much that what I shoot was simply irrelevant to blogs anymore.
Although, not long after the post, the submission process across all blogs has improved.
Maybe that’s a coincidence too.
I know I said weddings shouldn’t be a competitive sport.
But as a photographer, you spend time with really wonderful people.
At one stage it’s not about me anymore, you just want the world to know about them.
Most of my couples are like me, leaning towards the introverted side.
Or at the very least, an introspective sense of humour.
They’re the realistic dreamers – trying their best to find that sweet spot to be practical, to be with the people they love, while staying true to who they are.
(Did I just describe life in general?)
I see firsthand their sacrifices and compromises.
Not all weddings get to be perfect.
I think wedding blogs need more of their stories.
Rain? It’s fine.
Shoes ruined? It’s fine.
COVID? It’s fine.
Anyway, this is a long spill to say Rachel and Chris’ wedding last year is currently featured on Polka Dot Bride.
So happy for them.
